Maximilian Voloshin’s 1911 poem about his double carved in stone
You called my likeness out of stone,
You breathed God's fire into it.
My double,
He is alien to me, other and yet alike.
Here he stands, clear and stern,
And his featurelessness frightens me:
Some god
Revealed in the primordial stone.
