I learned that I have an enormous family: the path and the little wood, and in the field every ear of corn!
Я узнал, что у меня
Есть огромная семья:
И тропинка, и лесок,
В поле – каждый колосок!
Речка, небо голубое –
Это все мое, родное.
Это Родина моя!
Всех люблю на свете я!
Literal translation
I learned that I have
An enormous family:
Both the path and the little wood,
In the field every single ear of corn!
The river, the blue sky,
All this is mine, my own.
This is my Motherland!
I love everyone in the world!
Remember this poem from "Brother 2"? In the new documentary "Voices of the Arctic" with Denis Simachev there is a segment about the author of these lines, Nikolai Kurilov, a Yukaghir poet, artist and journalist, who wrote "Native" in the Yukaghir language back in the 1980s.
However, there are more substantial sources that name the poet Vladimir Orlov as the author of the cult eight-line poem, which is confirmed by several publications under his name; Kurilov has no such publications.
