The philosopher Slavoj Žižek writes on Substack about his eating habits:
What I hate most of all is the politically correct politicisation of food. Recently in Germany I had a conflict with friends who wanted to go to a Lebanese place, but I hate hummus, which reminds me of the food that cows prepare for their offspring (first they make it warm and soft by chewing it in their mouths, and then they feed it to their young). So I insisted on a traditional German plate of pork chops with onions, and they treated me almost like a racist neo-Nazi...
My secret pleasure is breaking the rules. In Israel I like to go to Italian restaurants and order spaghetti carbonara, which violates every rule of kashrut (they mix cream with meat, which, of course, is pork ham). In India I ran into trouble when I insisted that I wanted a mixed beef and pork stew, in order to embarrass both the Hindus and the Muslims in my company.
