Head of the Miklukho-Maklai Foundation descends from the traveller's brothers, not from him
Saw a rather diverting advertisement for coconut condensed milk at an acquaintance's, the proceeds of which will support an expedition to the shores of Papua New Guinea.
FURTHER IN THE TEXT: "organised by the descendants of the great Russian traveller Nikolay Miklukho-Maklay".
The Miklukho-Maklay Foundation is indeed headed by a man who bears the traveller's surname, but he is not his descendant. Nikolay Nikolayevich Miklukho-Maklay, born in 1973, is the great-great-grandson of Sergey Nikolayevich, the full brother of Nikolay Nikolayevich Miklukho-Maklay. The same man is also the great-great-grandson of another brother of N.N. Miklukho-Maklay, Mikhail Nikolayevich. The whole point is that Mikhail's daughter Serafima entered into a consanguineous marriage with her first cousin Dmitry Sergeyevich, and from that union three children were born.
In short, the director of the foundation that sells condensed milk in order to set off for Papua New Guinea is not a descendant of the traveller Miklukho-Maklay, but a descendant of his brothers. That is why one should never trust advertising.
