You Grieve for Those Not Worth Grieving For, Though Your Thoughts Are the Thoughts of Wise Men

You grieve for those not worth grieving for, though your thoughts are the thoughts of wise men. The wise man grieves neither for death nor for life. Never was there a time when I, and you, and all the Princes of the earth did not exist, and never shall we cease to exist. As the soul in this mortal form finds infancy and old age, so in the form to come it shall find the like. He who firmly believes this is troubled by nothing that may befall him. The sensibility of the faculties produces heat and cold, pleasure and sorrow, which come and go, and are transient and inconstant. Bear them patiently. For the wise man is not troubled by them, and he for whom sorrow and pleasure are one was created for immortality. A being that is merely imagined has no existence, but what is real is a stranger to non-existence. Those who penetrate to the beginning of beings see the end of every being. Learn that He who created all things is invisible, and that no one can destroy a being that cannot be exhausted; to these bodies that cover the souls dwelling within them, which are eternal, imperishable and surpass all conception, it is appointed to be finite beings. And so resolve to fight!
