The Béton Centre for Visual Culture Announces a New Project: "Masterpieces of Early Photography"

The Béton Centre for Visual Culture has announced a new project, "Masterpieces of Early Photography". The exhibition, which opens on 29 August, will present unique works by outstanding nineteenth-century photographers: David Hill and Robert Adamson, Édouard Baldus, Henri Le Secq, Gustave Le Gray and other masters whose works form part of the collections of the world's leading museums and of private collectors.

It is important to understand that the works made at that time were, in both subject and technique, made for the first time. It was precisely these authors who laid the foundations of the language of photographic visuality.

Of particular interest are Le Gray's photographic seascape "Brig upon the Water", which gave rise to photomontage in landscape photography, and the hand-coloured stereo daguerreotypes from the studio of "T. Schneider and Sons", which record the interiors of Zinaida Yusupova's palace on Liteyny Prospect in Saint Petersburg
