Ruins of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi and its earlier temples according to Pausanias
This is what part of the ruins looks like at the historic site in Greece known as Delphi. The very homeland of the oracle, at the temple of Apollo.
Situated on another part of the slopes and very similar to these ruins, the temple remains belong to a structure of the 6th century BC. An earlier stone temple of Apollo was built considerably sooner, in the middle of the 7th century BC, and before it, if we are to believe Pausanias, there stood a temple of bronze and stone, one of wax and feathers, and a wooden one.
According to legend, the stone structures at Delphi were raised from stone donated by various city-states of the Greek league, all of which had to be delivered by sea. Just imagine the effort of hauling all these blocks up from the coast, here, into the mountains
