It Turns Out Pasternak Was Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature Six Times.

The first occasion was in 1946, when Boris Pasternak's candidacy was proposed by the English Slavist and translator of Silver Age poetry Cecil Maurice Bowra. He nominated Pasternak again in 1949.

In 1948 and in 1950 Pasternak was put forward by the Swedish literary scholar Martin Lamm.

In 1957 Pasternak's name was entered on the list of contenders by the poet Harry Martinson, a member of the Swedish Academy.

In 1958 Pasternak was nominated by five professors: Dmitry Obolensky of Oxford, Ernest Simmons of Columbia University, and Roman Jakobson, Harry Levin and Renato Poggioli of Harvard. Besides Pasternak, the nominees that year included Mikhail Sholokhov, Ezra Pound and Alberto Moravia; the winner was Pasternak.
