Penalties for molesting, kissing and raping a married woman

Share

I found in the Middle Assyrian Laws of the 2nd millennium BC several important norms of a city community that would fit the Slutsky affair perfectly.

- If a man has raised his hand against a married woman and pawed her (literally "treated her as a child", that is, evidently, toyed with her with physical caresses), and he is accused of it and convicted, one of his fingers shall be cut off. And if he has kissed her, his lower lip shall be drawn to the blade of an axe and cut off.

- If a married woman was walking along the street and a man seized her and said to her: "Let me know you!", then, if she did not consent and defended herself, but he took her by force and knew her, and he was caught upon the married woman, or witnesses convicted him of having
known this woman (by force), he shall be put to death, and the woman bears no punishment.

- If a man has known a married woman, whether in a tavern or in the street, knowing that she is a married woman, then the one who has known her shall be dealt with as the husband wishes to deal with his wife.
