Did Henry V Get the Crown Only Because His Brother Died?

Contrary to the plot, the real Prince of Wales was not stripped of his status as heir, nor did he renounce the crown in favour of his younger brother, Thomas of Lancaster, Duke of Clarence; indeed, he never stepped back from the affairs of the kingdom at all. Nor did Thomas of Lancaster fall in battle in Wales, which in the script returns the crown to the Prince of Wales. He did die in battle, but in France, at Baugé, in 1421, eight years after Henry V's accession.
