Legend of the creation of the land by the Amur and of Kado, who shot two suns
I want you to read this ancient Nanai legend at bedtime and give it some proper thought:.
“At the beginning of the world there lived three people: Shanvai, Shankoa and Shanka. One day the three people sent three swans to dive, to fetch stones and sand for the earth. The birds dived, and only surfaced after seven days. They came out and looked: the earth was growing, the River Amur was flowing. Then the three people made a man named Kado and a woman named Dzhuluchi, and then a girl named Mamilzhi. The people multiplied and filled all the land along the Amur. One day Kado said: “There are three suns in the sky. It is impossible to live like this, it is very hot. I want to shoot a sun.” His wife said: “Go!” Kado went towards the sunrise. He dug a pit and hid in it. He saw the first sun rise and shot it. He shot at the second sun, but missed. The third sun he killed as well. He returned home, and it was not so hot. The girl Mamilzhi had managed to make drawings on the stones. Dzhuluchi said: “Now people will see that my husband killed two suns.” After two suns had been killed, the stones became hard.”
And may the third of the suns not turn out to be killed tomorrow
