Italian and Spanish media confirm that Pope Leo XIV has decided to restore the papal residence in the Apostolic Palace
I remind you that Pope Francis lived and died in the Domus Sanctae Marthae (Casa Santa Marta), an annexe to St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, intended for the lodging of cardinals who arrive to take part in the conclave.
After his election Francis declined to move into the Apostolic Palace and settled in the Casa Santa Marta. Incidentally, this has caused some hitches in the present conclave, since the Pope occupied an entire floor of a building that is supposed to serve as a hotel for the participants of the conclave.
Let us see which of Francis's innovations will yet be repealed under Leo XIV. At the very least, the Fisherman's Ring may become golden again, rather than gilded gold. And of course it would be rather nice to bring back the papal tiara, which Paul VI renounced.
