In this historical and diplomatic reference work, presented to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich by the boyar Artamon Matveyev, it is the eagle, and not the older emblem of the Muscovite grand-ducal house, Saint George slaying the serpent, otherwise known as the "Horseman", that is called the "Muscovite" coat of arms, as a symbol of the opening part of the tsar's title.
