Golden wreath of 315 BC found during construction of the Thessaloniki metro
A golden wreath tied with a Heraclean knot, which is rather unreliable at home and at sea. Found in a Macedonian tomb. The diadem is in splendid condition, and although it dates from 315 BC, it is one of 300,000 finds from 5,000 burials excavated during the construction of the metro in Thessaloniki. The metro has been under construction since 2006, and all the treasures found will be displayed at the stations themselves and in above-ground museums close to the sites of discovery. It is an excellent solution for preserving and localising cultural heritage, when artefacts are not carried off to capital-city and foreign museums but left in their "homeland"
