Norfolk resident Barbara de Dozsa refuses to return Antonio Solario's "Madonna and Child", stolen in 1973 from the Civic Museum of Belluno (Italy), reports Artguide
Some time ago Mrs de Dozsa's husband acquired the work without knowing its provenance. The painting, which appeared on Interpol's lists, came to notice after its owner tried to sell it through an auction house in 2017. Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Italian authorities failed to file their papers within the prescribed time, and the work was returned to de Dozsa. Now she refuses to hand over the picture, demanding payment of its full value, while the law enforcement agencies cannot open a criminal case, since de Dozsa herself committed no crime. Meanwhile, no legitimate auction house will touch a stolen painting.
