Women of the Imperial Family as Colonels-in-Chief of Russian Regiments

Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in the uniform of Her Majesty's Life-Guards Uhlan Regiment, of which she was Colonel-in-Chief from 1903.

On their fourteenth birthdays, the emperor's daughters became colonels of one of the formations of the Russian Imperial Army.

The eldest daughter of Nicholas II, Grand Duchess Olga Nikolayevna, became Colonel-in-Chief of the 3rd Yelisavetgrad Hussars in 1909.

The second daughter, Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolayevna, is shown in the photograph with her elder sister, in the full-dress uniform of her own 8th Voznesensk Uhlan Regiment.

The third Grand Duchess, Maria Nikolayevna, was honorary commander of the 9th Kazan Dragoons.

Anastasia, the youngest of the imperial daughters, was Colonel-in-Chief of the 148th Caspian Infantry Regiment. Unfortunately, no photograph of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolayevna in the uniform of her regiment has been found.

It turns out that the family of Nicholas II included colonels-in-chief of hussars, uhlans, dragoons and Caspians.
