The building of the Elizabeth Girls' Gymnasium at 9 Bolshoy Kazenny Lane was built in 1912. The gymnasium itself had been founded as early as 1880, but it stood at a different address, 11 Maroseyka.
The building, designed by the architect Rerberg, author of the Central Telegraph Office and the Kievsky Railway Station, contained teaching, residential, service and leisure premises alike: from the kitchen with its pantries and the dining hall to the ballroom and the house church of the Righteous Elizabeth. The gymnasium provided boarding for 70 pupils.
The gymnasium never ceased to function as an educational institution. To this day a school operates in it.
