Tomorrow the State Hermitage will open new halls of its permanent display “The Gallery of Peter the Great”, devoted to the era of the Empresses Anna Ioannovna and Elizabeth Petrovna and to the development of Russian art and culture during their reigns

The display includes paintings, jewellery, porcelain, smalt and mosaic panels, and furniture. Particular attention is paid to Mikhail Lomonosov: one of the halls will be devoted to his work and to the unique collection of smalt and mosaic panels produced at the Ust-Ruditsa factory, which Lomonosov founded.

Among the exhibits there will also be painted trompe-l'œil “deceptions”, works of art designed to play a trick on guests. One of the halls will be devoted to works reflecting the fascination with the motifs of exotic lands that was characteristic of the Baroque and Rococo.
