In just a few days, three new galleries of contemporary art have opened in Moscow: Beton, Sasha Blanar's Serene and Ilya Ovcharenko's Nakovalnya. The last two, moreover, stand in neighbouring buildings on Prechistenskaya Embankment. At Serene, the première was a women's group exhibition, “Light Plumage”, while Nakovalnya [Anvil] launched with a project by Pavel Pepperstein and a whole troupe of young artists, who have filled two floors of the space with what seems an endless comic strip, whose plot I have so far failed to grasp. I do not know what they are counting on, given the general uncertainty and rents that show no reaction to it whatsoever, and on Prechistenka of all places, but time will tell. Boldness is a fine thing. The exhibition, incidentally, is called “Mythogenic Love of the Castes”
