Went to the Moscow Biennale of Young Art yesterday and was at first disappointed, but after talking to some gallerist acquaintances, I have partly changed my mind. After all, one ought not to have compared this event from the outset with the major art occasions of not so long ago, whose budgets were incomparably larger. And naturally one must not forget the conditions in which the biennale was prepared: the pandemic imposes incredible logistical restrictions, so one should take note of the many monitors showing assorted digital projects by foreign artists, whereas bringing paintings and sculptures to Moscow with the borders closed would have been very difficult indeed. On the whole, it is worth going to see. Nothing particularly caught my attention on a first viewing, but the very fact that Moscow continues to open art events of international standing does credit to the curators and organisers, who were not afraid of great difficulties and considerable uncertainty and, against all odds, brought the project before our eyes
