An exhibition of the outstanding master of geometric abstraction, the first Russian minimalist Alexandr Yulikov, has opened at the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val. The display brings together works spanning more than 50 years, which allows one to trace the development of the artist's method and his turn to new ideas. Yulikov's work invariably contains a peculiar view of space: by means of complex techniques the artist compels the plane of the canvas to change its outlines and boundaries, and from one work to the next he alters the superficial perception. Take, for example, the silvery series in the second photograph: as you approach, the work seems to move. And it is made of glue, matches and silver pigment
