Russian Vogue writes rapturously about the Dolce&Gabbana Alta Moda show in Sicily. Only the authors, it seems, see no difference between the Pantheon and the Parthenon, which did not prevent them from titling one of their themed pieces "A Lesson in Art History"! Alas, it is not all so simple, and not all ruins are alike.

So, dear colleagues, the Temple of Concord, beside which the show was held, together with the other temples and picturesque ruins in the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento, dates from the 6th-5th centuries BC and is protected by UNESCO as an outstanding monument of the Doric style outside Greece.

The settlement of Akragas itself was founded on this spot by Greeks from Rhodes, who brought with them an architectural style that does indeed recall the Parthenon, built in Athens at roughly the same time as the Temple of Concord in Sicily, which, naturally, cannot possibly recall the Pantheon in Rome, built several centuries later, in the 2nd century AD, and belonging to an entirely different architectural style.

Time to swot up on the basics!
