Paris debates log benches and other decisions by Mayor Anne Hidalgo
Meanwhile in Paris, an angry debate is raging over the mayor, Anne Hidalgo, and her contentious decisions on urban improvement. Many are simply shocked by the new city benches, made of roughly hewn logs. Taken together with the installation of ungainly public lavatories, the removal of the railings around trees and the destruction of the famous information stands, the Morris columns, an attraction consisting of timber blocks on the verge of rotting may well seem a mockery of the classical architectural image of the French capital.
