In the night of 24 to 25 January, four valuable archaeological exhibits were stolen from the Drents Museum in Assen (the Netherlands): the Helmet of Coțofenești and three Dacian gold bracelets. All the exhibits had been lent by the National Museum of Romanian History for the exhibition “Dacia: Empire of Gold and Silver”. The criminals entered the building at night, blowing up the front door.

It is reported that the criminals set fire to a car in order to distract the police and commit the crime undisturbed.

The stolen gold helmet, 2,500 years old, was found in 1927. The helmet is richly decorated with elements from Getic mythology.

The three stolen Dacian bracelets were made in 50 BC. They were found in the Dacian capital, the city of Sarmizegetusa.
