Unknown persons destroy early 17th-century stone cross in Le Tréport

On the night of 14 to 15 August, unknown persons destroyed a historic monument in the northern French town of Le Tréport: a stone cross of the early 17th century. That the act of vandalism took place on the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, the town authorities described as a coincidence. The mayor considers the incident to be the result of the imprudence of a group of young people and to have nothing in common with vandalism motivated by religious hatred. The identities of the disturbers of the peace have not yet been established, not least because there are no CCTV cameras on Place de Gaulle, where the monument stands
