At the Tretyakov Independent Research Expertise Centre
At the Tretyakov Independent Research Expertise Centre, specialists are studying the archive of one of the most prominent representatives of non-conformism, Yevgeny Rukhin, the initiator of the famous Bulldozer Exhibition in Moscow. A year ago the artist Yan Ginzburg bought the archive from the heiress of the artist's mother. He intends to stage a large exhibition of Yevgeny Rukhin in 2025, where he will present the results of the archival research.
After the mysterious death of the 32-year-old artist in a fire at his studio in 1976, his wife, the artist Galina Popova, left the USSR with their son, taking everything she could. Most of the archive is now in the United States, administered by the Yevgeny Rukhin Foundation, established by his widow, who has since died.
The expertise centre of the Tretyakov Gallery holds 36 works by the non-conformist. Several of Rukhin's works are in the collections of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the New Museum (Saint Petersburg). The appearance of each of the artist's works on the art market is an event that arouses great interest among collectors.
