A remarkable exhibition of the museum's collection, amassed over 25 years, is on at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art on Petrovka. MMOMA is usually perceived as a scattering of exhibition spaces across the city centre, and it is all the more interesting to make acquaintance with the museum's own holdings, quite representative of modern art in the very broadest sense: from modern to contemporary.
The second floor of the late eighteenth-century mansion designed by Matvey Kazakov is given over to the display of the collection, "Things and Visions". The museum has been showing its collection of ten thousand items for more than ten years now, usually in displays devoted to some particular theme. The anniversary display, marking the museum's 25th year, includes works by such artists as (in the order of the photographs) Alexandra Exter, Anatoly Komelin, Sayan Baigaliev, Gosha Ostretsov, Alexander Rodchenko, Yury Avvakumov, Dmitry Prigov, Alexander Sokolov, Andrey Voznesensky and Mikhail Shvartsman. Besides these, there are dozens of landmark names, from the first third of the twentieth century (Annenkov, Burliuk, Malevich) to our own day (Rostan Tavasiev, Vladimir Chernyshev).
The exhibition is open until 15 April
