La Casa Kahlo museum on Frida Kahlo's childhood and youth to open in Coyoacán
A new museum devoted to the childhood and youth of the artist will open in the Mexican district of Coyoacán, in the house of Frida Kahlo's parents. The exhibition will include personal belongings, documents and photographs, which were first kept by Frida's parents and then passed to her younger sister Cristina. In recent years the collection has been in the possession of Frida's great-niece, Mara Romeo Kahlo.
The museum will show a drawing Frida made at the age of five, her first oil painting and a recently discovered fresco, possibly the only one of her life. The museum, La Casa Kahlo, will open next to the already famous La Casa Azul (the "Blue House"), which has existed since 1958 and was created thanks to Frida's husband, the artist Diego Rivera. La Casa Azul recently made the news over suspicions that some of the museum's exhibits had been stolen and sold at auction.
