Film Academy members must watch all nominees before voting in the final round
Hollywood Tightens the Screws.
Film Academy members will be obliged to watch all the films in contention for the awards.
It is hard to believe that this had to be enshrined in a special rule. Americans!
In the final round of voting, the Academy's electronic voting system will not allow jurors to reach the ballot in any category in which they have not proved that they have watched all the nominees. The Academy will monitor viewing through its members-only streaming app; as for films seen elsewhere, such as at screenings, film festivals and so on, voters will have to fill in a form stating when and where they watched the film.
