Coup Plot Against German Government Uncovered
A plot to overthrow the government has been uncovered in Germany. Arrests were carried out in 11 German states, and 25 people have been detained, among them former servicemen and adherents of far-right views. Among those held is one of the leaders of the group, a 71-year-old prince of the House of Reuss of Greiz, Heinrich XIII. All those arrested refuse to recognise the modern German state and its authority over them. The conspirators are reported to have intended to topple the republican order in the country and to establish a new regime on the model of Germany in 1871, turning the state into an empire under the name of the Second Reich.
As for Prince Heinrich XIII, the 66-year-old Heinrich XIV, the present head of the princely House of Reuss of Greiz, a title held since 1962 by the Princes Reuss of Köstritz, has already issued an official statement on behalf of the senior members of the house: Heinrich XIII is a bewildered old man who has become entangled in conspiracy theories, and who left the family of his own accord 14 years ago, since when he has maintained no contact whatever with the princely house.
