A Chamber Exhibition of Juan Miguel Palacios Opens at Polina Askery's Gallery
A chamber exhibition of Juan Miguel Palacios has opened at Polina Askery's gallery. The Spanish artist works in a unique technique, using paper, plasterboard, acrylic, cement, stone, wood and other most unexpected materials. Palacios's attention is centred on female images. The pictures, as you can see, are super-voluminous, almost like a hearth set into a wall, behind which a forgotten theatre turns out to be hiding. If one steps closer, some ruins and even great blocks of stone show through behind the portraits. The metaphor is, on the whole, plain enough: a complex structure and a stony, constructive substance beneath a visible outward fluidity. Pleasingly, the prices of the works are not inflated and accord with the international price list
