Queen Elizabeth II always had personal chauffeurs, but she adored driving herself, especially in a Range Rover, the British off-roader that became her signature car. At the end of August one of her vehicles will go under the hammer at the Silverstone Festival auction: a 2006 model with 120,000 miles on the clock, estimated at £50,000–70,000. The car was in the Queen's personal use from 2006 to 2008, mostly at Windsor.
Elizabeth learned to drive and to repair vehicles at the age of 18, while serving during the Second World War. The Range Rover suited her perfectly for getting about the royal estates.
The car has kept its royal specification: green bodywork, leather interior, a protective grille for corgis, a figurine of a Labrador with a pheasant, and special security equipment.
