Seneca in “Moral Letters to Lucilius” on reading many books and peace of mind

"You do not wander, you do not trouble yourself with change of place. Such restlessness is the sign of a sick soul. I think the first proof of a tranquil mind is the ability to live settled and to remain with oneself. But consider: is not the reading of a great many authors and the most diverse books akin to vagrancy and restlessness? One must stay long with this or that great mind, nourishing the soul upon them, if one wishes to extract something that would remain in it."

Seneca, Moral Letters to Lucilius.
