The dial that adorns the belfry of the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery today was installed in 1983, after yet another restoration
The very first dial dates from the time of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, who presented the Monastery of Saint Savva with a tower clock brought from Smolensk. Unfortunately, neither the clockwork nor the dial itself has survived to our own day. As pre-revolutionary sources relate, the French, running riot in the monastery in 1812, damaged and smashed the striking clock.
