Toyota RV-2 camping estate car shown in Tokyo and New York but never put into production
Toyota RV-2 was a camping estate car that never reached series production, developed by Toyota engineers in the 1970s and shown at the Tokyo and New York motor shows. Thanks to a roof that opened at the rear, the concept car's 4.8-metre body could easily be transformed into something like a van, with comfortable couch-style seats and a table, meant to serve as a little rest-house for the wayside halt. Unfortunately, the prototype did not impress the motoring community's heavyweights enough to go into production, so the idea remains to this day one of those charming inventive notions born out of its time.
