There are two versions of the historical significance of this brick pillar in Kolomenskoye
Some call it the petition pillar, to which petitions, that is, requests to the Tsar, were brought, and on which royal decrees were posted. I do not care for this version. Firstly, the Tsardom of Muscovy had a Petitions Office (Chelobitny Prikaz); secondly, what nonsense it is to carry complaints to some pillar: who received them? how were they registered? if there was a receiving clerk, what role did the round pillar play? Not to mention that nobody would have fixed royal decrees to a brick pillar barely a metre high.
The second version sounds more convincing. The object is also called the clock pillar, which looks closer to the truth: a clock could well have stood on it, with greater likelihood than a petition-receiving point.
