Today a monument to Alexander Pushkin was solemnly unveiled in the grounds of the Holy Trinity Church on the Left Bank of the Seine, in Paris's 7th arrondissement. Among those present was a direct descendant of the poet in the male line, Alexander Alexandrovich Pushkin, together with his wife Maria Alexandrovna, who had travelled from Belgium.

The monument is the work of the sculptor Alexander Taratynov, a member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The monument stands on the embankment that bears the name of the former President of France, Jacques Chirac. It is symbolic that Chirac, who had studied Russian as a young man, was a great admirer of Pushkin and even translated a chapter of «Eugene Onegin» into French.
