The tallest unoccupied building in the world: the Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea

The tallest unoccupied building in the world is the Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea. It is also known as the "Hotel of Doom".

Construction of the hotel began in 1987, but was suspended in 1992 owing to the economic difficulties that beset the country after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The 105-storey pyramid-shaped skyscraper stands 330 metres high. The exterior was completed in 2011, but the interior still consists largely of bare concrete.

This hotel has never received a single guest. It was planned to have between 3,000 and 7,665 rooms and five revolving restaurants.
