The house itself recalls one of Hugo's novels

The house itself recalls one of Hugo's novels. Even in the layout of its rooms and floors: once inside, you find yourself among dark wooden interiors with a great deal of carving and, as you climb, pass gradually into ever more appealing and lighter surroundings, until at last you are enveloped in sunlight, clouds and sea, at the very top of the house. On the lower ground floor there is a billiard room adorned with family portraits, and corridors crowded with souvenirs from travels and a collection of porcelain. In the hall stands a sombre and massive mirrored frontispiece bearing the motto «Respirer Paris, cela conserve l’âme».
