I read this card with such delight! And afterwards I pestered a member of the museum staff, quizzing him about the details of the dinner depicted, about which room Napoleon-Jérôme (nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte and darling of the whole family) had stayed in, and whether any of his personal belongings or other reminders of him had survived in the house.

My onslaught rather took the museum man aback, and he explained that there was no such information, and that, besides, he was not even sure the Jacobin had sat at that table at all.

But I know how Georges Sand adored him: her diary even contains an entry saying that her beloved Alexandre Manceau kept as a memento Prince Napoleon's cigar and the glass from which he drank
