Russian Eclectic Pseudo-Baroque Strikes Straight to the Heart
Russian eclectic pseudo-Baroque strikes straight to the heart. Look at these cheerful and severe features of the Petrovskaya Agricultural Academy on the grounds of the old Petrovsko-Razumovskoye estate! The convex Finnish glass ordered to the design of the architect Benois has survived to this day. One is tempted, foolishly and rhetorically, to exclaim: why do they not build like this any more? The estate itself, its parks, ponds, grotto and the various later, already academic, buildings create a mood that is wholly un-Moscow and un-modern, and of course inspire joy for the students of the Agrarian University and the neighbouring University of Environmental Engineering, who are lucky enough to spend every day amid this magnificence. God grant that these lands are never handed over to the developers to be devoured
