Rostov Kremlin as the filming location of Gaidai’s “Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Profession”
The Rostov Kremlin is, beyond doubt, one of the most famous historical architectural complexes in Russia. Every year many millions of people stroll through its chambers, corridors and along its walls, in the company of the heroes of the Soviet comedy "Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession". It was Rostov, whose historical ensemble was being actively restored in the 1970s, that Leonid Gaidai chose as the location for his screen adaptation of Bulgakov's play "Ivan Vasilievich". The tsar's chambers themselves, of course, were built in one of the Mosfilm studio pavilions, but the scenes on the walls, on the roof and in the courtyard were shot on the genuine seventeenth-century walls.
