Captain Haddock from the Tintin comics and his dislike of tourism

"Travel? What next? I hate tourism, the industry of shipping people who would be better off at home to places that would be better off without them."

Captain Haddock really is my favourite comic-book hero of all time.

He lives in his castle of white stone, recalls distant wanderings and victories at sea, bothers no one and quietly loathes philistinism.

As for that occasion when he failed to "uncork" the charming simpleton Tintin on meeting him in the desert, the fault, of course, lay with a mirage, which in the eyes of the much-experienced captain turned the young reporter into a tempting bottle of champagne. That is all.
