Law bans depicting places of worship without religious symbols in media, advertising and emblems

A Law on the Protection of Religious Symbols Has Been Adopted.

The law amends the federal law "On Freedom of Conscience and on Religious Associations" and prohibits the use of images of religious buildings and other objects bearing religious symbols with those symbols removed, in the media, in the performance of work or provision of services, in the sale of goods, and likewise in state and municipal symbols and insignia, in emblems, in announcements, on signboards and in advertising.

Erasing religious symbols is prohibited, including on official heraldic devices and their recognisable parts.

In addition, the law provides for the possibility of publishing images without religious symbols if the symbols in question were absent from the original in the relevant period, or if their presence in the image entails the desecration of the symbols.
