Serbian Church restores communion with Macedonian Church and recognises its autocephaly

The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirije, Announces the Autocephaly of the Macedonian Church.

A week ago the Assembly of Serbian Bishops restored canonical communion with the Macedonian Orthodox Church, which had been broken off in 1967, when the Macedonian bishops proclaimed an autocephaly of their own accord. And so, after a schism of 55 years, communion with the Macedonian Church was resumed by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and then by the Assembly of the Serbian Church.

In a matter of days, quite literally, the Serbian Church recognised the Macedonian one first as an autonomous body within the Serbian Patriarchate, and then as an autocephalous Church.
