Representatives of Britain's Christian Churches after the service of prayer for King Charles III. Two women are present in the photograph. The ordination of women, that is, their elevation to holy orders, is a matter of debate in many Christian Churches, chiefly among the Protestants. At present the ordination of women as priests is accepted by some Methodists, Baptists, Old Catholics and Presbyterians, in the Church of England and in the Lutheran Churches, notably those of Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Norway. Moreover, in a number of Churches women may be ordained as bishops: these are the Lutheran Church of Norway, Church of Sweden and Church of Finland, the Evangelical Church in Germany and the Anglican Episcopal Church (active chiefly in New England and New York).
