I watched the new Major Grom: what is the film actually about?

In the first film, the protagonist, Igor Grom, an officer of the Saint Petersburg police, appears as a veritable Russian superman without any evident weaknesses or, as critics noted, motivation. One is left with the impression that people endowed by nature with incredible willpower and a sense of justice invariably join the law enforcement agencies, and that there can be no scoundrels in them whatsoever.

In the sequel, «Major Grom: The Game», the police remain as pure and innocent as ever, but Major Grom at last changes. We literally witness the emergence of a splendid swallowtail from what turns out to have been a timid caterpillar. The hero seems to realise that spinning the flywheel of violence promises nothing good for his loved ones or for society, and he even takes responsibility for the broken lives of ordinary residents of Saint Petersburg.

Igor Grom is now not merely a policeman but a national favourite, the most popular man in Petersburg, with whom everyone dreams of taking a selfie. Fancy that! And it is precisely Grom who, at the decisive moment, takes responsibility upon himself, because he now stands not merely for good but for truth, in which, as we know, lies strength.

Against him, this truth-telling bogatyr, who has all but stepped out of the dusty pages of a chronicle, stand none other than greedy foreign agents, whose strength lies in money.

With a certain degree of generalisation, it turns out that Igor Grom is Gleb Zheglov, Danila Bagrov and Anton Gorodetsky all in one person. A hero of the new generation, combining the chief traits of the heroes of the past. A very fresh legend.
