Visited the exhibition "Arctic. Pole of Colour" at the Tretyakov Gallery on Kadashevskaya, devoted to images of the Far North in Russian art.
The display is rather interesting: there are Arctic landscapes, motifs from the art of the peoples of the North, and local artists. Unusually, it also sets works by contemporary artists on the same theme, Leonid Tishkov, Arkady Nasonov and Alexander Ponomaryov, beside those of, say, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century masters, the first travellers in the Arctic, participants in the Soviet Arctic expeditions, and the Nenets artists Tyko Vylka and Konstantin Pankov. Painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography, installations, several bone icons and examples of folk decorative and applied art.
A fine opportunity to make a polar voyage without leaving the confines of the Garden Ring.
