Vatican police escort a blogger out of St Peter's Basilica and attempt to arrest her for dancing inside the church and filming it

Vatican police escorted out of St Peter's Basilica, and attempted to arrest, a blogger who had been dancing inside the church and filming it. The silly girl, naturally, at once raised a howl about it online.

Each time I see activities of this sort, I want to ask: what is wrong with you people?

Why does your every step come down to main-character syndrome?

You arrive at a place of incredible religious, spiritual, historical and artistic significance, and the first question you ask yourselves is how you might become the centre of the narrative, how to make the visit "all about you".

It is simply beyond comprehension. What is more, such deviant behaviour, all for the sake of photos and videos on social media, has become the norm for more than one generation. Remember the drunkard who climbed onto the statue of Turandot and broke it? Remember the women who demolished a pyramid of stones in a nature reserve, the poor souls who broke a chunk off the rim of the Grand Canyon? They are all vegetables from the same garden, though ripened some 20 to 30 years apart, and all of it was done not merely out of native stupidity but for the sake of social reward, though from whom, exactly, it is quite unclear.
