They write that Elizabeth II meant to turn her feckless son Prince Andrew out of his house, and also that she disliked Boris Johnson and Donald Trump

Strange reading, and, as usual, on the word of unnamed sources. Ah, those masters of journalism!

As for Trump, on the contrary, according to many courtiers, and indeed to any attentive observer, it is clear that the Queen was fond of Trump because he was unretouched and genuine during his state visit, and that this earned him her sympathy and sincere smiles at dinner.

As for hatred of Johnson, the Queen would not have said such a thing even in private conversation. It is not very handsome to use her for one's own political ends.

This story sounds most peculiar, rather like the one from the day when all the senior Privy Counsellors, including every living former prime minister, gathered at St James's Palace for the Accession Council to proclaim Charles king. A high-ranking official, having offered his condolences to one of the Queen's closest aides, was supposedly told that before her death Elizabeth II had enjoyed seeing her family and her favourite staff, and that at the mention of Boris Johnson, dismissed in July, she had said with a mischievous glint in her eye: "Well, at least now I shan't let that idiot organise my funeral."
